Annie Curtis Nelson MS, LPCC
Welcome! I’m glad you’re here!
Through the Woods Counseling is really just me, Annie (she/her/hers); I am a feminist therapist licensed in the state of Minnesota to treat mental health disorders, and I often work with dual diagnosis - that’s just a way of saying I’m trained in working with folks that struggle with more than one problem at a time. Think things like anxiety and problematic substance use, trauma and depression, stress management and ADHD, and so on and so on… I believe mental health diagnoses can be helpful in giving us a starting point for evidence based ways to improve our mental wellness, but they are also labels rooted in and created by classically oppressive systems, so diagnosis is not going to be the prevailing focus of sessions with me.
I work with adults 18+ and specialize in life transitions, managing stress, ADHD, anxiety, trauma and addiction, and have a particular interest in how our childhood experiences impact us as adults. I currently see clients via telehealth and in person. I use a trauma informed approach to address underlying issues that may be affecting you today and have training in Anchored Relational Therapy (ARM, formerly known as AIR network), addiction, DBT, and psychodynamic approaches.
